Hybrid ceramic bearings combine steel rings with rolling elements made of silicon nitride (an effective electrical insulator). This means that hybrid ceramic bearings can insulate the bearing seat from the shaft in AC motors, DC motors, and generators. Silicon nitride is a ceramic material that also has the characteristics of low density, high strength, stiffness, toughness, and hardness.
Compared with all steel bearings of the same size, hybrid ceramic bearings have higher rotational speed performance and can provide longer service life under the same working conditions. They can also withstand excessive vibration and oscillation, and in these cases, there is usually no need to preload bearings or apply specialized grease.
